From Marina’s sunrise to Mahabalipuram’s heritage charm, the city is preparing for three days of celebration, leisure and entertainment.The iconic Marina Beach is expected to witness massive footfall, with visitors thronging for early morning walks, kite flying, family picnics and food stalls. “Festive weekends in Chennai are always special. The sea breeze, street snacks and crowds create a joyful mood,” said Raghavan, a regular Marina visitor.
For families and children, Vandalur Zoo, Birla Planetarium, and Guindy Children’s Park remain top choices. “Kids have been waiting eagerly. This weekend is the perfect chance to take them outdoors instead of gadgets,” said Priya, a parent from Velachery.
Shoppers and entertainment lovers are turning to Express Avenue, Phoenix MarketCity, Forum Vijaya Mall and T. Nagar shopping streets. “Festive sales, movies, food courts and music events are bringing great energy to the city,” said Varun, a college student.
Meanwhile, those seeking peace and heritage are planning trips to Mahabalipuram, Kanchipuram temples, DakshinaChitra, Muttukadu boating, and Elliot’s Beach. Cultural programmes, concerts and temple festivities have also been lined up across the city.
Tourism officials expect strong turnout and advised people to plan travel early. “Traffic will be heavy and public spots will be crowded. But this festive weekend will boost tourism and local businesses significantly,” said a tourism department official.
With festive spirit in the air, Chennai is set to celebrate culture, leisure and togetherness over the long weekend, turning the city into a vibrant hub of joy and celebration.
