Filmmaker Sudha Kongara, a distinguished protégé of Mani Ratnam, is set to return with one of her most ambitious projects yet — Parasakthi, a film that has generated immense anticipation ever since its announcement.
Produced by Aakash Bhaskaran under the banner of Dawn Pictures, the film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on January 10, 2026.
Reflecting on the journey of Parasakthi, Sudha Kongara revealed that the project faced both praise and scepticism in its formative stages. “When the idea of Parasakthi first emerged, there were mixed reactions. Many felt the subject could invite criticism and pose significant creative and logistical challenges. But Mani Ratnam sir’s belief in making the impossible possible became my guiding force,” she said, noting that the film demanded perseverance and absolute conviction.
The director credited producer Aakash Bhaskaran for standing firmly by the project. She described his faith and creative support as pivotal, stating that Parasakthi may never have materialised without his unwavering belief in the vision.
Sudha Kongara also had high praise for her cast. Calling Sivakarthikeyan the backbone of the film, she said his immediate commitment and deeply etched character would leave a lasting impact on audiences. Ravi Mohan’s powerful screen presence, she added, stands out as one of the film’s strongest elements, while Atharvaa Murali’s dedication elevated his role far beyond what was originally envisioned. She also highlighted Sreeleela’s performance, noting that the actor breaks new ground with a portrayal that is both intense and transformative.
Music composer GV Prakash Kumar, marking his 100th film, plays a crucial role in shaping the film’s emotional core. Sudha Kongara described his score as integral to the film’s soul, adding that his music amplifies the narrative’s depth and promise.
Written and directed by Sudha Kongara, Parasakthi is described as a bold recreation of a significant chapter in Indian history. With its powerful ensemble, compelling music, and ambitious storytelling, the film is poised to be one of the most awaited Tamil releases of 2026, aiming to leave a lasting imprint on audiences worldwide.
