The Tamil Nadu government has informed the Madras High Court that the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti‑Corruption (DVAC) has been directed to conduct a detailed investigation into corruption and irregularity allegations in the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department (MAWS). The probe stems from evidence and communication received from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding suspected wrongdoing within the department.According to the status report filed before the High Court, the ED’s communication, which was forwarded to the state government by the Director General of Police (DGP), raised concerns over irregularities in recruitment and contract allotments in the MAWS department. Following this, the state government sought DVAC’s involvement and granted permission under Section 17(A) of the Prevention of Corruption Act for a detailed inquiry. The anti‑corruption agency formally registered the probe on December 12, 2025, and the investigation is currently underway.
During the court hearing, the bench, led by Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava, directed the DGP to file an action‑taken report by January 27 and adjourned further proceedings to January 28. Petitioners, including social activists and public representatives, have urged the court to ensure a thorough investigation and possible registration of a First Information Report (FIR) based on the ED’s inputs. This development reflects growing scrutiny of alleged corruption practices and underscores the judiciary’s role in monitoring anti‑graft efforts in the state’s administrative machinery.
