Thousands of autorickshaws in Chennai remained off the roads for the second consecutive day due to a shortage of LPG used as fuel, causing inconvenience to commuters across the city.
According to reports, many autos that run on LPG have been unable to operate as gas refilling stations are running out of supply, forcing drivers to park their vehicles in various parts of the city.
It is estimated that around 30,000 LPG-powered autos operate in Chennai, and a large number of them have been affected by the shortage. The disruption has particularly impacted school students and daily commuters who rely heavily on autos for short-distance travel.
Auto drivers say several gas refilling stations have either closed due to lack of stock or are witnessing long queues. As a result, many drivers have been unable to refill their vehicles and continue working.
Driver representatives warned that the ongoing shortage is affecting their daily income and livelihood, and they have urged authorities to restore normal LPG supply at the earliest.
