M. K. Stalin, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, on Saturday held a high-level meeting with senior officials to review the shortage of domestic LPG cylinders reported in several parts of the State.
The meeting was attended by the Chief Secretary and senior officials from the Finance Department, where discussions focused on the current supply situation, steps taken to ensure uninterrupted distribution and measures required to prevent hardship to the public.
Officials briefed the Chief Minister on the availability of cylinders, distribution logistics and coordination with oil marketing companies.
The review assumes significance as residents, hotels and small businesses in many districts have complained about delays in LPG cylinder deliveries in recent days.
Long queues have been reported at some refilling stations and distribution centres following concerns about supply disruptions.
The State government has been closely monitoring the situation after reports that commercial LPG supplies had been affected due to the ongoing tensions in West Asia, which have raised concerns about fuel logistics and availability.
However, authorities have emphasised that domestic LPG supply for households is being prioritised.
Sources said the Chief Minister instructed officials to ensure adequate supply of cylinders, closely track stock levels and coordinate with the Union government and oil companies to prevent shortages. He also directed authorities to take necessary steps to maintain smooth distribution and avoid inconvenience to the public.
Meanwhile, the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance has announced statewide protests against the BJP-led Union government, accusing it of failing to take preventive measures to avoid the current LPG supply issues.
Officials said the State government will continue to review the situation regularly and take further measures if required to ensure that households and essential services are not affected by the LPG supply situation.
