Tehran, Mar 18: Ali Larijani, one of Iran’s most influential political and security figures, has been killed in a major airstrike amid the escalating conflict in West Asia, marking a significant blow to the country’s leadership.
According to Iranian authorities, Larijani — who served as the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council — was killed along with his son and aides in a targeted strike near Tehran.
The attack, reportedly carried out by Israel, is seen as one of the most high-profile assassinations in the ongoing conflict.
Larijani, aged 67, was a central figure in Iran’s power structure. He played a key role in shaping the country’s national security, nuclear policy, and strategic decisions.
In recent months, he had emerged as one of the most powerful leaders in Iran, especially following the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei earlier in the conflict.
A veteran politician, Larijani previously served as Speaker of Iran’s Parliament from 2008 to 2020 and was also known as a former nuclear negotiator.
