Chennai, Mar 25:
The Government of India has introduced a dedicated helpline number — 14567 — to provide assistance and support to senior citizens across the country. The initiative aims to ensure timely help for elderly individuals facing difficulties in various situations, offering a simple and accessible way to seek support.
Citizens can dial the number directly without any area code or prefix. The helpline is designed to address a wide range of concerns, including assistance for senior citizens in distress, medical emergencies and guidance, protection from harassment or abuse, and information on nearby vaccination centres. It will also provide general support and counselling services to help elderly individuals navigate everyday challenges.
The service will be available daily from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM and will operate across all states in India. Officials said the initiative is part of the government’s efforts to strengthen support systems for the elderly and ensure their safety and well-being.
Authorities have urged people to spread awareness about the helpline among senior citizens in their families, neighbourhoods, and communities so that those in need can benefit from the service.
