Celebrated filmmaker Steven Spielberg has revealed his interest in directing a full-fledged horror film, a genre he says he has long wanted to explore but never completely embraced.
The 79-year-old director, known for creating iconic cinematic experiences with films like Jaws, Jurassic Park, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, acknowledged that while his past works have included elements of suspense and fear, he has yet to direct a pure horror movie.
“I haven’t directed a horror film yet, and I’ve always wanted to, and someday I may,” Spielberg said, adding that he often questions whether he can create something that would genuinely terrify audiences.
Interestingly, Spielberg pointed to Weapons, directed by Zach Cregger, as one of the most impactful horror films of the past decade. He noted that watching such a powerful film sometimes diminishes his own urge to venture into the genre, as it already delivers a deeply satisfying experience.
Spielberg had previously ventured close to horror as a co-writer and producer of Poltergeist, which was directed by Tobe Hooper, known for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
Despite his hesitation, Spielberg’s remarks have sparked excitement among fans, who remain eager to see the master storyteller bring his vision to the horror genre.
