Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place across Tamil Nadu ahead of the Assembly election vote counting scheduled for May 4, with over one lakh police personnel deployed to ensure a smooth and incident-free process.
According to election authorities, security has been significantly intensified at all counting centres across the state’s 234 constituencies.
Personnel from state police, armed reserve units, and central forces have been stationed in large numbers, with strict access control measures in place to prevent any untoward incidents.
A multi-layered security system has been implemented, especially at strong rooms where Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and VVPAT units are stored. These facilities are under round-the-clock surveillance with CCTV monitoring, and only authorised personnel are allowed entry on counting day.
Officials said counting centres will be heavily barricaded, with frisking points, identity verification, and restricted movement zones established to maintain order.
Special arrangements have also been made for candidates, counting agents, and observers to ensure transparency while maintaining strict security protocols.
In addition, quick response teams, fire and rescue services, and medical units will be on standby at all major counting locations. Traffic regulations and diversions will be enforced in key areas to avoid congestion and facilitate the movement of officials and security personnel.
Authorities have also intensified patrolling in sensitive areas and stepped up intelligence monitoring to pre-empt any law and order issues. Senior police officials will supervise operations on the ground to ensure coordination between various security agencies.
With these comprehensive measures, the Election Commission aims to ensure that the counting process is conducted peacefully, transparently, and without disruption, as the state awaits the outcome of the high-stakes Assembly elections.
Officials further stated that strict enforcement of prohibitory orders will be ensured around counting centres, with gatherings restricted and additional surveillance through drones and mobile patrol units.
Any violation of guidelines will be dealt with firmly to maintain law and order on the crucial counting day.
