Chennai,  May 8:

Tamil Nadu once again recorded an impressive performance in the Higher Secondary public examinations, with the State registering an overall pass percentage of 95.20% in the Class 12 board examinations announced on Thursday. The results, released by the Directorate of Government Examinations (DGE), reflected consistent academic performance across districts, with girl students continuing to outperform boys by a significant margin.

According to official data, more than 8.27 lakh students appeared for the examinations held across Tamil Nadu this year. Of them, nearly 7.53 lakh students successfully cleared the examinations. The results reaffirmed Tamil Nadu’s position as one of the best-performing States in terms of school education outcomes and public examination performance.

Girl students once again emerged ahead in the overall results. While girls secured an outstanding pass percentage of 97%, boys recorded 93.19%, resulting in a gap of 3.81 percentage points. The trend of girls outperforming boys has remained consistent over the years in Tamil Nadu’s public examinations, with female students continuing to dominate in both pass percentage and top scores.

District-wise, Erode emerged as the best-performing district in the State with a remarkable pass percentage of 98.87%. The district maintained its strong academic reputation with students posting excellent results across streams. Sivaganga district secured the second position with 98.05%, followed closely by Kanyakumari at 97.63%, Tirunelveli at 97.54%, and Tiruchirappalli with 97%.

Education officials noted that the performance of government schools also remained encouraging this year. A total of 2,639 schools across Tamil Nadu achieved a 100% pass result, including 489 government schools. The achievement is being seen as a significant boost for the State’s public education system, especially amid increasing competition from private institutions.

The Class 12 examinations were conducted between March 2 and March 26 across 3,412 examination centres throughout Tamil Nadu. The answer sheet valuation process was carried out from April 6 to April 20 at more than 150 evaluation centres under strict supervision.

Officials from the School Education Department stated that multiple measures had been implemented this year to ensure smooth conduct of examinations and timely publication of results. Digital monitoring, streamlined evaluation systems, and enhanced coordination between district authorities were among the key administrative efforts undertaken during the examination process.

One of the major highlights of this year’s result announcement was the introduction of a WhatsApp-based result access system for students. For the first time, the Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency launched a facility allowing students to receive their examination results directly through WhatsApp. Students can check their scores by sending a “Hi” message to 78452 52525 and following the instructions provided by the automated system.

The move is aimed at reducing server load on official result websites and making access easier for students, especially those in rural and remote areas. The initiative also reflects the State government’s push towards integrating digital services into public administration and education delivery systems.

Apart from WhatsApp, students can continue to access their marks through the official Tamil Nadu examination portals by entering their registration number and date of birth. Result details are also being sent via SMS to registered mobile numbers to ensure quicker dissemination of information.

Education experts believe the strong overall performance indicates a gradual stabilisation of academic standards after years of disruptions caused by the pandemic period. Many schools reportedly intensified revision schedules, model examinations, and counselling sessions to help students prepare effectively for the board examinations.

Meanwhile, career guidance centres and higher education institutions across the State have begun preparations for admissions counselling, with engineering, arts and science, medical, and professional course applications expected to gain momentum in the coming weeks.

Parents and students across Tamil Nadu celebrated the results, with several schools organising felicitation events for top scorers and achievers. Social media platforms were flooded with congratulatory messages as students shared their marks and success stories online.

With another year of high pass percentages and strong district performances, Tamil Nadu’s school education system has once again demonstrated its academic consistency and examination management capabilities. However, educationists also stress that the focus must gradually shift beyond pass percentages towards improving analytical learning, skill development, and career readiness among students.

The Class 12 public examination remains one of the most crucial milestones in the academic journey of students in Tamil Nadu, often shaping higher education opportunities and career paths. For lakhs of students and parents, Thursday’s results marked not just the end of a school chapter, but the beginning of a new phase filled with aspirations and opportunities.
