Chennai, June 18:
Tamil Nadu Governor Arlekar on Thursday announced that a Social Justice Census will be conducted in the State following the completion of the national population census, underlining the government’s commitment to equitable development.
Delivering his address at the Legislative Assembly, the Governor stated that the proposed census would aim to collect detailed data on various social groups, which would help in formulating targeted welfare policies and ensuring fair distribution of resources.
He noted that the initiative is intended to strengthen the principles of social justice by identifying gaps in representation and access to government schemes among different sections of society.
The Governor emphasized that the State government is keen on using data-driven governance to address socio-economic disparities and improve the effectiveness of its welfare programmes.
As per established practice, the Governor’s address—prepared by the State government—outlined key policy directions and future initiatives. The announcement of the Social Justice Census was one of the major highlights of the speech.
The address was delivered in English and later read out in Tamil in the Assembly. The session, which began with the Tamil Thai Vazhthu, marks an important phase as it is the first Assembly meeting after the new government assumed office.
Further discussions on the Governor’s address and policy announcements are expected to take place in the coming days.
