Chennai, June 23:
Indian Railways has announced stricter rules and increased penalties under the Jan Vishwas Act 2026, set to take effect from July 1.
Under the revised regulations, passengers travelling without a valid ticket will face a fine of ₹500 in addition to the ticket fare. Men found travelling in coaches reserved for women will be fined ₹2,500 and may be removed from the train.
The new rules also impose a ₹500 penalty for travelling using tickets booked in another person’s name. Unauthorized vendors and beggars found on trains or railway premises will be fined ₹2,000, while carrying hazardous or explosive materials will attract a minimum penalty of ₹10,000.
The move aims to enhance passenger safety, improve discipline, and strengthen security across the railway network.
