Chennai, June 27:
Amid reports of possible action over alleged poll setbacks, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K. Selvaperunthagai launched a sharp attack on the ruling TVK government, condemning Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay for his gesture targeting DMK president M. K. Stalin in the Assembly.
Calling the act “disgusting”, Selvaperunthagai said the Legislative Assembly is a dignified institution and not a “shooting spot”, stressing that such remarks and gestures were inappropriate in a democratic forum.
Drawing comparisons with the previous DMK regime, he highlighted the achievements of former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, citing flagship schemes like Naan Mudhalvan, Tamil Pudhalvan, Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai and the breakfast scheme, and said they had set a benchmark in governance.
He also questioned the TVK government’s performance on key issues, raising concerns over women’s safety and alleging lapses in industrial regulation. Referring to the recent ammonia gas leak in Tiruvallur, he urged the government to take responsibility and ensure stricter enforcement of safety norms in factories.
