Chennai, July 31:

Tamil Nadu government schools have recorded a significant surge in student enrolment, with as many as 4.23 lakh new admissions reported for the current academic year, according to the School Education Department.

The data reveals that a majority of the new admissions are at the primary level, with 2,94,209 students enrolling in Class 1 alone. This indicates a strong preference among parents for enrolling children in government schools at the foundational stage.

In addition to primary enrolments, 88,515 students have joined Classes 2 to 8, contributing to the overall rise in admissions across the State.

Officials noted that the steady increase in enrolment reflects growing confidence in the quality of education provided in Tamil Nadu government schools. Over the years, several initiatives, including infrastructure improvements, enhanced teaching methods, and welfare schemes, have played a key role in attracting students.

The latest figures highlight the State government’s continued efforts to strengthen public education and ensure access to quality schooling for all sections of society.

Education experts believe that sustained investment in government schools, along with focused academic support, will further boost enrolment and improve learning outcomes in the coming years.
