Chennai, Aug 21:
The Tamil Nadu Police has established Internal Vigilance Cells in all districts and cities to strengthen transparency, integrity and public confidence in the police department.
According to an official communication from DGP/Head of Police Force Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, the cells will receive and inquire into complaints concerning corruption, misconduct, abuse of authority and other unethical practices involving police personnel.
District- and city-wise phone and WhatsApp numbers have been provided to enable citizens to directly report complaints to the respective vigilance cells.
The police have assured that the identities of complainants and witnesses will be kept confidential. Complainants will also be protected against harassment, intimidation or retaliation for filing complaints.
The DGP has urged the public to come forward without fear, assuring that complaints would be dealt with in a fair, impartial and timely manner.
Senior police officers will regularly monitor the functioning of the Internal Vigilance Cells to ensure effective action on complaints.

The initiative is aimed at strengthening internal accountability within the police force and providing citizens with a direct mechanism to report alleged misconduct by police personnel.
