Chennai, Aug 4:
Upping his ante against the ruling TVK headed by Chief Minister Vijay on Cauvery and Mekedatu issues and allegedly turning a blind eye to the plight of farmers, Opposition DMK President M.K.Stalin on Monday warned of escalting its protests if the demands of Cauver district delta farmers were not met.
In a statement after the party staged a massive protest at Thanjavur led by Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin, he said farmers were facing severe distress as Cauvery water, usually released on June 12 from Mettur dam, had not reached Tamil Nadu even in August. Sons of Cauvery river who welcome rise in Cauvery waters on the auspicious occasion of Aadi Perukkau are drowned in sadness due to the lethargic attitude of the government .
Claiming that the state was witnessing a Chief Minister who had not uttered a single word condemning Karnataka for refusing to release waters as per the CWMA directive, the Ex-Chief Minister took pot shots at Vijay asking “Will you mortgage the lives of our farmers for screeening a film (Jananayagan) in the neighboring state?”.
