Chennai, Aug 6:
M. K. Stalin on Thursday criticised the Tamil Nadu Agriculture Budget 2026, calling it a “hollow exercise” that failed to address the pressing concerns of farmers, particularly those affected by drought conditions.
In a post on X, Stalin alleged that instead of discussing drought and farmer distress, the budget session was used to heap praise on the Chief Minister. He remarked that the exercise appeared to be merely a “renaming event,” suggesting that existing schemes of the Dravidian Model government were simply rebranded with a “victory” label.
The DMK leader further criticised the government for ignoring the plight of delta farmers, especially those impacted by the Kuruvai cultivation season, who are awaiting timely support. He described the budget as “empty” and lacking meaningful relief measures for the agricultural community.
Stalin also asserted that DMK members would raise farmers’ demands strongly throughout the Assembly session, urging the government to “wake up” and respond with concrete solutions.
The remarks come amid ongoing political debate over the Agriculture Budget, with opposition parties questioning its effectiveness in addressing ground-level challenges faced by farmers across Tamil Nadu.
