Tiruchy, Sept 5:
Three guest workers from Odisha have been arrested for allegedly attacking police personnel during a night patrol in Karur district, while two others involved in the incident remain at large.
The incident occurred late Thursday when a team from the Thennilai police station was conducting night patrol in the area. The team, led by head constable Ganesan, 34, was proceeding towards Nallipalayam when they encountered a group of five guest workers near a TASMAC outlet.
According to police, the workers picked up a quarrel with Ganesan, attacked him and fled from the spot under cover of darkness. The injured head constable was taken to Karur Medical College Hospital for treatment, following which a case was registered.
During the investigation, Thennilai Inspector Kandasamy identified the five alleged attackers as Ravindra Gadia, 21, Sahadev Parik, 26, Gudsek Nayak, 24, Uthavkumar Gadia, 21, and Shakthar, 24, all from Odisha.
Police found that the five were working at a windmill in Nallipalayam. A team subsequently went to the worksite and arrested Ravindra Gadia, Sahadeve Parik and Gudsek Nayak.
The three arrested men were produced before the Karur Judicial Magistrate Court and remanded in prison. Police have launched a search for the remaining two accused.
