Dubai, Sept 5:

India will face arch-rivals Pakistan in a high-voltage Women’s T20 Asia Cup clash in Dubai on Saturday, with the defending champions entering the contest in confident mood after winning their opening two matches and already securing a place in the semi-finals.

India began its campaign with convincing victories over Thailand and Hong Kong and has emerged as one of the tournament favourites. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side will nevertheless be keen to maintain its winning momentum and use the Pakistan game to fine-tune its combinations ahead of the knockout stage.

The clash has gained added significance following Smriti Mandhana’s record-breaking performance against Hong Kong. Mandhana smashed 124 off 64 balls, including 14 fours and seven sixes, to become the leading run-scorer in women’s international cricket, surpassing former India captain Mithali Raj’s tally of 10,868 runs. The innings also took Mandhana to 18 international centuries.

Mandhana’s form will be one of India’s biggest strengths going into the contest. The Indian batting line-up also has considerable experience through captain Harmanpreet Kaur, while Shafali Verma and Richa Ghosh provide attacking options. Deepti Sharma has also made an impact with the ball, including a three-wicket haul against Hong Kong.

Pakistan, meanwhile, will be looking to produce a strong performance against the tournament favourites and improve its qualification prospects. Having played fewer matches than India, Pakistan will see the contest as an important opportunity to strengthen its position before the final league-stage game against Hong Kong.

The rivalry between the two sides remains one of the biggest attractions in Asian women’s cricket. While India have enjoyed the upper hand in recent meetings, Pakistan will be aware that a strong performance in a pressure game could transform the momentum of its campaign. India defeated Pakistan by 64 runs in their most recent meeting at the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

For India, the immediate objective will be to finish the league stage unbeaten and carry the confidence of a strong campaign into the semi-finals. The team can also use the match to assess its bowling combinations and middle-order options before the knockout rounds.

The match will be played at the Dubai International Stadium, with the tournament running from August 28 to September 13. The India-Pakistan encounter is scheduled for Saturday, September 5, and is expected to draw substantial television and digital audiences across the region.

With India already through to the semi-finals, Pakistan fighting to strengthen its qualification hopes and the traditional rivalry adding further intensity, the contest promises another high-profile chapter in India-Pakistan women’s cricket.
