Tiruchy, Sept 25:
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee will continue to oppose Karnataka’s proposed Mekedatu dam and will not allow the project to proceed, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Praveen Chakravarty said on Thursday.
Speaking to reporters in Tiruchy, Chakravarty said the TNCC would continue to oppose the project and asserted that Karnataka would not be allowed to place even a single brick at the proposed construction site.
He said he had raised the Cauvery issue in Parliament and expressed hope that Tamil Nadu would receive a favorable outcome. According to him, the Union Jal Shakti Minister had also supported Tamil Nadu’s position on the Cauvery issue.
Chakravarty also said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi would visit Tamil Nadu on October 10 and interact with youngsters on issues concerning national politics.
He further criticised the Election Commission over alleged irregularities in the electoral process and said the Opposition had raised concerns over the issue earlier. He called for accountability over the functioning of the poll panel.
The Mekedatu project has remained a contentious issue between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, with Tamil Nadu parties opposing the construction of a dam across the Cauvery.
