Chennai: Yet another resident has made the city proud with her skills and achievements.
This time, it is Vidya Subramanian of Raghaviah Road, at T Nagar, who was adjudged the winner of the ‘Homepreneur’ Statewide competition, conducted by Brand Avatar jointly with Naturals.
Receiving the honour from actor Kamal Hassan in the presence of vocalist Sudha Raghunathan, she was selected for providing online vocal music training and honing teachers in the same field.
Vidya Subramanian who was a disciple of legendary musician Lalgudi Jayaraman speaks to ‘News Today.
“The whole event was transparent. 11 women judges chose 35 winners in different categories from out of the 6,500 participants from across the State. I was the only one to have been selected from the Carnatic music field, as I am not only training women at their homes online, but have also empowered several teachers,” she says.
Stating that it was tough to compete with other participants, she says,”The organisers also gave ample opportunity for every participant to explain their achievements.”
“After various rounds, the judges announced my name for the category of Home professional in music,” she notes.
Managing domestic commitments, how does she cope up with training schedules ?
“I never miss to take care of my family members and their requirements. Regarding training, I fix suitable time with students and take classes online,” she explains, adding,”I have also developed free music lessons in YouTube.”
When questioned about the teachers who are trained by her, she says,”They all are in touch and update me about their sessions. Most of them reside in different districts.”
Noting that receiving the award from actor Kamal Hassan was indeed special, she states,”He praised all the winners, encouraged and assured to extend continuous support for the development of women.”
So what are her future plans?
“I have started online training in languages like Sanskrit and there is a good response from people. I will now focus on various other areas and initiate training to women within their homes,” she concludes.
