Chennai: Sri Bala Vinayakar Seva Trust of Sri Bala Vinayakar Temple at Bharani Colony, Saligramam, as part of Deepavali celebrations organised free clothes distribution to the needy on the temple premises recently.
Television artiste Varadharajan gave away clothes to 700 underprivileged men and women. It included T-shirts to 350 men and sarees to 350 women.
“Deepavali is believed to bring glow to every life on earth. So we chose this festival the right occasion to distribute new clothes and bring happiness and make the deprived enjoy the festival as anybody does,” said Sri Bala Vinayakar Seva Trust managing trustee K Subramanian.
For the past 14 years, the trust, apart from its temple-related activities, has involved itself in charity assistance to the deprived section of the society. With the help of the funds from philanthropists and devotees, it helps those who are really deprived and need attention, with various contributions including distribution of free clothes, educational aid, marriage and medical assistance, said a press release said.
