Monisha Antoni, Chennai: The proposed opening of a new Tasmac outlet near a school on Arunachalam Road has not gone well with residents and students.
United Residents Welfare Association of Saligramam and Vadapalani chairman A Paramanathan and his friend Annijagan are fighting against the government move.
“There are many film studios, schools, cinema theatres and hotels especially along the stretches of Arunachalam Road and Arcot Road.
We have started receiving complaints from the residents about the upcoming Tasmac shop that is to be opened above Perumal Super Market near Karthigeyan Matriculation Higher Secondary School,” Paramanathan said.
The residents said that the shop is not even 60 feet far from three matriculation schools and bus stop. “There is a Pillaiyar temple nearby and many visit it and also the super market. If the liquor shop is opened on the first floor, the residents especially women would find it difficult,” Paramanathan said.
Residents also fear that the new Tasmac shop would lead to law and order problem in the locality. “Already due to the presence of Tasmac shop no: 501, near Dhasarathapuram Junction, women and the general public are facing many problems. It is just 300 meters away from the new proposed shop and what is the need for another one?” he asked.
