Chennai: Southern Railway released its 125th edition of Dhakshin Dhwani, an in-house journal-cum-calendar for 2019.
Southern Railway General Manager R K Kulshrestha Monday released the calendar that has Hindi translation of 11 poetry in languages including Tamil, Malayalam, Assamese, Telugu, Bangla, Maithili, Odiya, Sanskrit, Urdu, Kannada and Punjabi. Works of famous poets such as Subramanya Bharati, Kunwar Bechain and G Shankar Kurup are included in the calendar.
Kulshrestha was participating at the Zonal Official Language Implementation Committee (ZOLIC) meeting in Southern Railway Headquarters. Southern Railway Additional General Manager P K Mishra, principal heads of the departments and other railway officials were present.
The General Manager lauded the efforts of the headquarters and Madurai Division for winning the Rajbhasha shield and Pathak from the Railway Ministry. The honour is given by the Railway Board when railway employees take initiative to promote speaking in Hindi across various railway stations, offices and other quarters.
Kulshrestha said, “Learning Hindi by railway staff will help them to easily handle passengers coming from various regions. It will also help security staff understand and respond to the grievances of the passengers.”
