Chennai: Even as the police continue to investigate the heist at the Punjab National Bank’s branch in Tiruchi, some customers have alleged that they received fraudulent calls asking for their personal banking details.
The callers, according to the customers, claimed that they were representatives of the bank and asked for account number and CVV number of their ATM card.
This morning, a group of customers protested outside the bank questioning the officials as to why they were not allowed to see the lockers.
Meanwhile, police investigations revealed that the burglars who struck at bank had decamped with nearly 510 sovereigns gold and Rs 21 lakh cash after drilling holes in five lockers.
However, when they were leaving the spot in a hurry, they dropped 40 sovereigns and Rs 2 lakh on the road which have been recovered by the police.
On 27 January night, unidentified burglars gained entry into the bank by making a hole in the rear side of the wall. Using a gas welding machine, they broke open five lockers and escaped with valuables. Five special teams of 60 policemen have been formed to investigate the case.
