Chennai: Twelve cases of power theft were detected in Cuddalore and nine in Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari electricity distribution circles in Tamilnadu and the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation levied a cumulative fine of over Rs 10 lakh on the consumers.
Following raids by enforcement officials, the consumers admitted the offence and chose to compound the case, said a release.
Also since they came forward to compound the case, police complaints were not lodged against them. the consumers in Cuddalore, Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli circles were charged with fine to the tune of Rs 1,17,000 to drop criminal proceedings against them.
