Chennai: Even as people across the country are worried and praying for IAF pilot Abhinandhan’s safe return after being captured by Pakistan, his parents have exhibited courage and confidence of his comeback.
Former Union Minister T R Baalu who met Abhi’s parents today at their residence said, “I went to console them, but they have asked me to stay strong and said they are confident of their son’s return.” This statement is proof enough to show the mindset of Abhinandhan’s parents.
Similarly after meeting and speaking to Abhinandhan’s mother Shoba, DMDK treasurer Premalatha said, “Shoba said though she is concerned about her son’s safety, she is happy that at this moment people of the country have forgotten all their differences and are praying for the well being of Abhinandhan.”
Their confidence is not surprising as the entire family has dedicated their life to the betterment of the society.
While Abhi’s father Simhakutty Vardhaman is a retired Air Marshal, his wife Shoba is part of the Rotary Club in the locality and is said to have involved in many social activities for the betterment of the locality. She is said to have actively raised her voice against the Madambakkam-Chitlapakkam water sharing scheme.
Varthaman joined the Air Force in 1974 and retired 1 September 2009. Ironically, it is also said Varthaman was consultant of Mani Ratnam’s flick Kaatru Veliyidai in which the hero is captured by the Pakistan army and held captive.
Abhinandhan completed his school and college education in Delhi following which he joined the Indian Air Force in 1994. Abhi was trained in the Tambaram Air Force and is said to be an expert in piloting Mig 21 fighter crafts. It is said Abhinandhan’s wife and their two children are at present living in Srinagar.
Relatives of Abhinandhan who are concerned about his well being came to his house Wednesday. Kundhanadhan, a relative said, “We request the Central government to make sure that they take all necessary measures to bring Abhi back safely.”
