
Chennai: To scout for young football talent from across South India and to develop the game at the grassroots-level, Thamizhan FC, a football club based in Chennai and Neyveli, was launched here Tuesday.
The club was founded by Imran Khan, a football player who is just 27 years old.
Speaking during the logo launch of the club, he said, “Thamizhan FC’s vision is to promote football at the grassroots-level. Players from all over south India will be part of the club. Our aim is to scout for talent for the upcoming AIFF Youth League in boys’ U-13, 15 and 18 categories and for girls between 16 and 23 national league.”
“We are also in talks with foreign clubs and international coaches who will come and train our players,” said Imran.
Thamizhan FC’s scout for local talent will begin 10 May and go on till 6 June. The trials will happen in Chennai, Coimbatore, Tiruchi, Tirunelveli, Madurai and Neyveli. In Chennai, it will take place 10, 11 and 12 May at SDAT stadium.
The final selection will be held in Neyveli 1 and 2 June, followed by fitness tests, 3 and 4 June and medical test, 7 June, and squad players signing, 8 and 9 June.
“We are confident that more than 1,000 candidates will participate in the trials and we seek to take 100 players across U-13, 15 and 18 and also senior women’s team,” explained Imran.
Thamizhan FC’s CEO Shajitha Rahman, president C K Kumaravel and secretary Mayilvahanan participated. Football players Dharmaraj Ravanan, Nandha Kumar and Pradeep Mohanraj were present.
