New Delhi: India registered a record single-day spike for the sixth consecutive day today, with 9,983 new infections taking the country’s tally to 2,56,611, according to the Union Health Ministry.
India’s death toll due to COVID-19 rose to 7,135 with a record increase of 206 deaths in the 24 hours till Monday 8 am.
India is the fifth worst-affected nation in terms of coronavirus infection cases after the US, Brazil, Russia, and the UK, according to Johns Hopkins University data.
The number of active COVID-19 cases stands at 1,25,381, according to the Health Ministry.Ā A total of 1,24,095 people have recovered and one patient has migrated, the Ministry said.
Maharashtra alone has reported over 85,975 cases becoming the worst-affected State in the country. The State has now even surpassed Chinaās tally of 83,036 confirmed COVID-19 cases.
While coronavirus cases continue to surge in the country, malls, restaurants, religious places opened today as part of Unlock 1.0.
