
Chennai: Kovilpatti Magistrate Bharathidasan has started a probe into the death of a man and his son belonging to Sathankulam who were allegedly killed in police custody.
The 63-year-old father and his 31-year-old son were arrested by the police for opening shop beyond 9 pm. Police had remanded both the father and son under sections 188, 269, 294(b), 353 and 506(2) of IPC.
J Fenix (31) was declared dead at Kovilpatti government hospital by 8 pm on Monday while his father P Jeyaraj (63) died in the same hospital in the wee hours on Tuesday.
Condemning the killing of two traders in police custody, traders bodies shut down shops at Sathankulam, Udangudi, Peikulam today. While Minister Kadambur Raju has assured that a fair investigation will be conducted, DMK president M K Stalin has demanded justice to the victims.
Meanwhile, two Sub-Inspectors who were said to be involved in the incident have been transferred to armed forces wing.
