Chennai: Tamilnadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has announced a solatium of Rs 10 lakh to the family of armed reserve cop, who was knocked down by a lorry, when he tried to stop it at a check post in Tiruppur district.
In a statement here, Palaniswami said the cop, Prabhu, was on duty at the Thittaparai checkpost on the Kangeyam-Chennimalai State highway, when he saw a speeding lorry and tried to stop it.
However, the lorry driver, without stopping, sped past the check post following which Prabhu started to chase the vehicle in an attempt to stop it.
However, the lorry driver knocked down the two-wheeler and in the impact Prabhu sustained injuries and died on the spot.
Expressing anguish and grief over the death of the policeman while on duty, Palaniswami announced a solatium of Rs 10 lakh to his family from the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund and also a government job to one of his family members.
He also offered his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members.
