Chennai: With the State Assembly elections to be held in May next year, the Election Commission today released the draft electoral rolls.
The voter list was released by Chief Electoral Commissioner Satyabrata Sahoo in Chennai.
According to the list, there are 6,10,44,358 voters in Tamilnadu which includes 3,01,12,370 men, 3,09,25,603 women and 6,385 transgenders.
Sholinganallur has the highest number of voters With 6,55,366 votes. Kilvelur in Nagapattinam has the lowest number of voters with 1,73,107.
Sahoo said that addition, deletion and correction in the voter list can be made from 16 November till 15 December.
For the benefit of office-goers special camps will be conducted on 21 and 22 November and 12 and 13 December which are weekends.
It may be noted that Sahoo had chaired a meeting with nine recognised political parties in the Secretariat in the first week of November.
Representatives from regional parties like the AIADMK and the DMK, and national parties, including the BJP, the Congress, the Left parties and the NCP, took part in the meeting.
Assembly Deputy Speaker Pollachi V Jayaraman had said the Election Commission should speed up the inclusion of new voters in the rolls. Senior DMK leader and Rajya Sabha MP R S Bharathi said the EC should not go by the details provided by parties but should update the rolls after due verification.
He said his party had sought clarification on the documents to be submitted for deletion of names from the rolls.
Former MLA and DMDK member B Parthasarathy said the party had reiterated to the Election Commission that a final electoral roll, after carrying out the deletions, should be made available.
