New Delhi: In the first big decision a day after a grand ceremony where he took oath as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister for second term, Yogi Adityanath today extended the free ration scheme for three months for over 15 crore people of the State. The government will spend Rs 3,270 crore for the scheme.

The Chief Minister said, ‘In the cabinet meeting today, we have decided to extend the free ration scheme for the next three months. It will benefit 15 crore people.’

Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said that for the scheme the government will spend Rs 3,270 crore.

The free ration scheme, which was initiated during the Covid pandemic, was supposed to expire in March.

The programme was an important narrative in the just-concluded Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

With the latest move, the BJP aims to keep a focus on pro-poor governance in the Yogi 2.0 regime. Also, in the new State Cabinet, focus has been on balancing caste and regional equations.
