Chennai: The ruling DMK today threatened to launch civil and criminal defamation proceedings against BJP State president K. Annamalai for allegedly levelling defamatory charges against Chief Minister and DMK president M K Stalin and demanded damages to the tune of Rs 100 crore from him.

A day after Annamalai during his speech at Valluvar Kottam in Chennai alleged that Stalin had gone to Dubai to do criminal activities and not for the welfare of the people and government, DMK has issued a legal notice to the BJP chief demanding Rs 100 crore in damages, unconditional apology, failing which will warrant criminal and civil cases.

In the notice, DMK organisation secretary R S Bharathi said Annamalai should tender an unconditional public apology and desist from making defamatory statements against the Chief Minister who is in Dubai, promoting trade. The notice has been sent by the DMK MP and senior advocate P. Wilson.

While conducting protests at Valluvar Kottam alleging inaction on crimes against women and on the Budget by Finance Minister PTR Thiaga Rajan, the BJP leader alleged that the budget reflected several Central schemes of the Narendra Modi-led government like Skill India, Samagra Shiksha, one station, one product and rural road development programme.
