In response to the aftermath of Cyclone Michaung, the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) department has undertaken a significant initiative to renovate and restore temples in the affected regions. Minister for HR&CE, PK Sekarbabu, presided over a review meeting with Principal Secretary K Manivasan, Officer on Special Duty (HR&CE) J Kumaragurubaran, and Commissioner KV Muralidharan to evaluate damages incurred by temples in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Kanniyakumari, Tenkasi, Thoothukudi, and Tirunelveli districts. A statement released by the department revealed that the cyclone, coupled with torrential rains, had impacted as many as 26 temples across these districts. In light of this, officials presented a comprehensive assessment of the damages during the review meeting. To address the restoration needs, authorities estimated a budget of Rs 5 crore for the renovation and rejuvenation of the affected temples. Minister PK Sekarbabu, recognizing the cultural and religious significance of these temples, promptly directed the officials to initiate restoration work without delay. The allocated funds will be utilized to repair and reconstruct damaged structures, ensuring the preservation of heritage and sacred spaces for devotees.
