Chennai, Jan 19: In a letter addressed to his party cadre, Chief Minister MK Stalin conveyed that the DMK has the democratic strength to counter the politics of the ruling BJP, accusing it of saffronization, politicizing spirituality, and fostering communal hatred.
Stalin, who is also the president of the DMK, expressed his concerns over the BJP’s alleged attempt to impose Hindi and Sanskrit, as well as giving a saffron hue to various aspects of society, including the revered figure Thiruvalluvar. He stated that the ruling party’s actions were destructive to culture and native languages, and the DMK is well-equipped to counter these attempts democratically.
The upcoming second state conference of the DMK youth wing in Salem, themed “autonomy of states,” is positioned as a platform to address the urgent need to combat saffronization across the country. Stalin asserted that the DMK has the strength to defeat the BJP’s politics democratically and emphasized the importance of fighting against the saffronization agenda in all states.
Stalin raised concerns about the encroachment on states’ rights, including education, language, financial, and legal rights, during the BJP’s 10-year rule. He criticized the BJP’s approach of running states with appointed Governors alongside democratically elected governments, deeming it contrary to the principles of the Indian Constitution.
Highlighting the atrocity of Governors acting in a manner unbecoming of their high office, Stalin emphasized that if India’s diverse union is to remain strong, additional powers must be vested in the states. He stated that the objective of state autonomy, a theme of the Salem conference, is crucial for the strong functioning of the Union of India based on the principles of federalism.
