In a recent development, the Madras High Court has rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Tamil Nadu BJP functionary Amar Prasad Reddy in connection with an alleged assault case. Justice CV Karthikeyan presided over the hearing of the plea.Assault case: TN BJP leader denied anticipatory bail
Senior counsel RC Paul Kanagaraj, representing Amar Prasad Reddy, argued that the case was politically motivated and had been foisted without providing an opportunity for his client to present his side. The judge, after hearing the submission, deferred the matter to February 7, citing the need to await the listing of another anticipatory bail plea related to the same case.
Moreover, the judge declined to grant interim relief to the petitioner until the next hearing.
The Kotturpuram police had registered a case against Amar Prasad Reddy under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 354 (assault or criminal force on women with intent to outrage modesty) and 506 (I) (criminal intimidation). The case was initiated based on a complaint filed by a woman named Devi, who asserted that her sister Andal, a BJP cadre, was assaulted.
Devi claimed that during the arrangements for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Chennai, a dispute arose between her sister and three other BJP functionaries. On January 21, according to the complaint, three individuals forced their way into Andal’s residence and assaulted her. The complainant alleged that the assault occurred on the instructions of Amar Prasad Reddy.
