The Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) has once again made headlines with its recent expansion of bus services, adding six new routes to its network. With the summer season approaching, MTC’s initiative aims to improve connectivity between suburban areas and key locations in Chennai, including T. Nagar, Ambattur, Tambaram, and other industrial regions.
The addition of 50 new buses to its fleet was just the beginning, as MTC now introduces bus services across these fresh routes, creating vital links between various parts of the city and its outskirts. This expansion is expected to benefit thousands of commuters, facilitating easier access to major transit points and critical locations within Chennai.
Each day, these new routes will offer 8 to 12 journeys, accommodating approximately 7000 additional passengers. Residents residing on the outskirts of Chennai will now have improved connectivity to essential destinations within the city, thanks to MTC’s initiative.
Of particular note is the introduction of bus number 51T, connecting T. Nagar and Madurapakkam, providing direct access for commuters from Tambaram, Selaiyur, and other areas to T. Nagar via Velachery. Additionally, routes 19T and 19 Gct will connect Kovalam on the ECR with T. Nagar and Saidapet through Thiruvanmiyur, further enhancing connectivity options for residents.
The reinstatement of bus route S 41, serving Avadi and Ambattur, comes as welcome news for commuters, especially after its discontinuation during the height of the Coronavirus pandemic. With MTC extending bus services by an additional 4km to 1km, residents can now enjoy improved access to transportation services.
