The new building, costing Rs 65 crores, spans 112,247 square feet over four stories and is equipped with cutting-edge facilities. The foundation stone for the neurology block was laid by Health Minister M. Subramanian on February 10, 2024. This rapid progress comes after the older facility was damaged by a fire in 2023, necessitating the accommodation of patients in Tower 3 of the hospital.
The construction, initiated by the Public Works Department (PWD) earlier in 2024, follows an announcement made by the health minister in the Assembly in 2023. The new neurology block promises to enhance the hospital’s capabilities significantly.
Facilities Overview:
Ground Floor: Houses the neurology outpatient department, neurosurgery inpatient department, and radiology department.
First and Second Floors: Feature general wards for men and women.
Third Floor: Equipped with Intensive Care Units (ICUs).
Fourth Floor: Contains six operation theatres along with recovery rooms and pre-operation room facilities.
Additional Amenities: The building includes superb toilet facilities for differently-abled persons, four elevators, and two staircases on all floors.
The building also boasts additional facilities like a ramp, medical liquid oxygen connection, and fire safety equipment, ensuring a comprehensive and modern healthcare environment for neurology patients.
The nearing completion of this advanced neurology block at RGGGH marks a significant milestone in the hospital’s history, promising to provide enhanced medical care and support to the people of Chennai and beyond.
