Chennai: On the occasion of India’s 78th Independence Day, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin emphasized the significance of the Tricolour as a symbol of the nation’s diversity.

Celebrating the event at Fort St. George, Chennai, CM Stalin hoisted the national flag and remarked, “Our flag is not of a single colour but is tri-colour, representing the identity of our diversity.”

In light of recent natural disasters, particularly the landslide tragedy in Wayanad, Kerala, CM Stalin announced the establishment of an expert committee dedicated to studying natural disasters in hilly regions during heavy rain seasons. The committee will provide a comprehensive report to the state government, which will serve as a guide for implementing preventive measures aimed at reducing the impact of such disasters.

Marking the occasion, CM Stalin also unveiled two new welfare initiatives aimed at benefiting the people of Tamil Nadu. The ‘Mudhalvar Marunthagams’ (CM’s Pharmacy) scheme was introduced to ensure the availability of generic medicines and essential drugs at affordable prices, making healthcare more accessible. Additionally, the ‘Mudhalvarin Kakkkum Karangal’ scheme was launched to support the welfare of ex-servicemen, underscoring the government’s commitment to those who have served the nation.

During the Independence Day celebrations, CM Stalin presented awards to individuals who have made remarkable contributions in their respective fields. Dr. Kumari Ananthan was honored with the Thagaisal Thamizhar Award for her contributions to Tamil culture and heritage. Dr. P Veeramuthuvel, the Project Director of the Chandrayaan-3 Mission, received the APJ Abdul Kalam Award in recognition of his significant role in India’s space exploration efforts. Additionally, A Sabeena, a nurse from Nilgiris district, was awarded the Kalpana Chawla Award for her bravery and dedicated service during the Wayanad landslides.

On the occasion of India’s 78th Independence Day Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin emphasized the significance of the Tricolour as a symbol of the nation's diversity.
