“Those who speak derogatorily about any community should face action under the Prevention of Atrocities Act,” stated Hindu Makkal Katchi leader Arjun Sampath.
A protest rally, organized by the Hindu Makkal Katchi, took place yesterday in Chennai, demanding an end to defamatory propaganda against the Brahmin community and calling for measures to ensure their safety. Members of various organizations gathered near Rajarathinam Stadium, voicing their concerns with slogans.
In his speech, Arjun Sampath highlighted a growing trend of labeling Brahmins as “foreigners” and “Aryans” and claimed that the DMK government is fostering this divisive narrative. He accused the ruling party of increasingly marginalizing Brahmins and attempting to alienate them from the Tamil community. He also referenced a recent controversy involving Seeman, who used the term ā€œchandalanā€ in a song, leading to its inclusion under the Prevention of Atrocities Act.
Sampath urged that this law, which punishes derogatory remarks against specific communities, should also apply to those who speak insultingly of Brahmins in public forums or spaces. Just as derogatory comments against other communities can lead to arrest under this act, he argued, the same should apply to those who defame Brahmins.
He expressed disappointment that DMK ministers and officials who make disparaging remarks about Brahmins go unchecked by the Chief Minister, despite prominent Brahmin figures such as the Union Finance Minister and numerous women in the community facing such comments.
Arjun Sampath concluded by warning that if the Tamil Nadu government does not extend the same protection to Brahmins as it does to other communities, his party would launch a mass petition campaign to demand action.
