Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking an interim relief of ₹2,000 crore from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to support the state’s relief and rehabilitation efforts following the devastating impact of Cyclone Mandous.In his letter, Stalin highlighted the extensive damage caused by the cyclone, which has affected 14 districts in the state, leaving 69 lakh families and 1.5 crore people severely impacted. The cyclone has resulted in 12 deaths, while 2,416 huts and 721 houses have been destroyed.
The Chief Minister informed the Prime Minister that the state government has estimated that ₹2,475 crore is required for temporary restoration works. He requested the Centre to release ₹2,000 crore as interim relief to support the state’s efforts.
Stalin also requested the Prime Minister to send a Central team to assess the damage caused by the cyclone and flood. He expressed confidence that the Centre would provide support to the state in its efforts to restore normalcy.
The Tamil Nadu government has initiated relief and rehabilitation measures, including the establishment of 174 relief camps, which are currently housing 7,876 people. The state government has also deployed 637 fire service personnel and 900 personnel to restore power supply.
The Chief Minister’s letter to the Prime Minister highlights the severity of the situation in Tamil Nadu and the need for immediate support from the Centre to support the state’s relief and rehabilitation efforts.
