The AIADMK has urged the Election Commission to link Aadhaar with the Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) to eliminate discrepancies in the voter list, while the DMK has called for a faster approval process for political advertisements.Senior AIADMK leader D. Jayakumar stated that despite multiple complaints, voter list issues remain unresolved. He suggested that the Election Commission utilize technology to remove deceased persons from the list by obtaining details from local bodies. However, he alleged that no action has been taken on this front.
Jayakumar further claimed that two different voter lists are in circulationâone given to political parties and another used by polling booth presiding officers. âA voter’s name may appear in the list provided to political parties, but inside the booth, it could be marked as deleted,â he alleged.
Highlighting that nearly four crore out of six crore voters in Tamil Nadu have already linked their Aadhaar with EPIC, he emphasized that such linkage would resolve issues like photo mismatches and wrongful deletions.
Meanwhile, DMK organizing secretary R.S. Bharathy raised concerns about delays in getting prior approval for political advertisements on television and social media. He pointed out that the process currently takes five days to a week, calling it an unnecessary delay.
âThe approval committee should be located in the Chief Electoral Officerâs office, and permission should be granted within 24 hours,â he said, suggesting this change during a meeting of recognized national and state political parties with the Election Commission on Monday.
