Indian cricketer Ruturaj Gaikwad is set to make his debut in English domestic cricket as he joins Yorkshire County Cricket Club for the remainder of the 2025 season. The 28-year-old batter will participate in five matches of the County Championship Division One and also feature in the One-Day Cup, strengthening Yorkshire’s top-order batting.
According to a statement on the club’s official website, Gaikwad will join the squad ahead of their County match against Surrey at Scarborough in July and stay with the team until the season concludes. Currently, the Pune-born cricketer is representing India A on their tour of England, where he has played two unofficial Tests against the England Lions. His final assignment on that tour will be an intra-squad four-day match in Beckenham from June 13 to 16.
Yorkshire hailed Gaikwad as a versatile and accomplished batter, highlighting his experience as captain of Chennai Super Kings in the IPL and Maharashtra in domestic cricket. He has represented India in six ODIs and 23 T20 Internationals, showcasing a calm temperament and sound technique. Speaking on the opportunity, Gaikwad said, “It has always been a goal of mine to experience cricket in this country and there is no bigger club in England than Yorkshire.” His arrival is expected to add depth and stability to Yorkshire’s batting lineup as they push for success in both formats.
