DMK leader A. Raja has criticized the Modi government over the US imposing a 50% tariff on Indian goods. He claimed that Prime Minister Modi himself asked for the high tax.
The protest was held in Tiruppur. DMK demanded relief for Indian exporters affected by the tariffs.
Other leaders have also spoken about the tariffs. Former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi criticized them. They say the tariffs are linked to India buying discounted Russian oil.
BJP leader H. Raja asked people to boycott American products online. Tamil Nadu Industries Minister TRB Rajaa said the tariffs could hurt industries. He urged the Prime Minister to talk to manufacturing states.
The government has said it will not give in to US pressure. A. Raja’s statement is a direct political attack, unlike others who blame global and economic reasons.
