Tianjin, Sept 3:Azerbaijan has accused India of seeking “revenge” because of Baku’s close ties with Pakistan. The claim comes after India allegedly blocked Azerbaijan’s bid for full membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).Azerbaijani media said India’s move violates multilateral diplomacy and is linked to Azerbaijan’s support for Pakistan during Operation Sindoor.
President Ilham Aliyev met Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Tianjin, China. He congratulated Pakistan for its victory over India in military conflict earlier this year. Aliyev said Azerbaijan will continue to prioritize its “brotherhood” with Pakistan.
He added that Azerbaijan and Pakistan have close political, cultural, and strategic ties. The leaders also discussed expanding trade and economic cooperation through the intergovernmental commission.
Earlier, Azerbaijani broadcaster AnewZ reported that India “once again” blocked Azerbaijan’s SCO membership. Azerbaijan had supported Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, India’s military response to terror attacks in Pahalgam.
