A 21-year-old engineering student from Anna University, identified as Mariswaran, tragically ended his life on September 20, 2025, by jumping in front of a train in Trichy.

Hailing from Mamsapuram in Virudhunagar district, he had been residing in a private hostel in Mandaiyur. Before his death, Mariswaran left behind a suicide note naming his alleged tormentors.

Investigations by the Trichy Railway Police revealed that Mariswaran had befriended a man named Ilangovan from the Ariyamangalam area through Facebook. What began as an online friendship reportedly turned exploitative when they met in person. According to police reports, Ilangovan and his associates allegedly borrowed money from Mariswaran and subjected him to sexual harassment. The situation worsened when the group is said to have taken explicit photos and videos of him.

The police are currently investigating the matter, and further details are awaited. This incident underscores the importance of online safety and the potential dangers of online interactions.
