Two arrested accused – Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amritprabha Mahanta – in connection with legendary singer Zubeen Garg’s death last month – were remanded to 14 days’ judicial custody on Friday after their two-weeks’ police custody at the CID headquarters here ended on Thursday.
Goswami, a bandmate of Zubeen, and Mahanta, a co-singer, who were with the late singer during the yacht trip to an island in Singapore on the fateful day (September 19), were produced before the chief judicial magistrate in the morning, and later taken amid tight security to a prison at Haflong in Dima Hasao district.
It may be recalled that five other arrested accused in the case are currently in judicial remand and lodged in lower Assam’s Baksa district since Wednesday afternoon.
The arrested accused – the North East India Festival (NEIF) chief organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta; Zubeen’s manager Siddharth Sharma; the late singer’s cousin, Sandipan Garg, along with the singer’s two personal security officers, Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya – were taken to the Baksa district jail at Nikashi after they were produced before the chief judicial magistrate here and remanded to 14 days’ judicial custody on Wednesday.
