The storm Cyclone Ditwah — which had formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal and was heading toward the coasts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry — has weakened into a deep depression, authorities said.Despite the loss of strength, strong winds and rough seas continue to batter coastal areas. The system remains under close watch via Doppler Weather Radars located at Karaikal and Chennai.
Forecasters warned that some rainfall and gusty winds may persist across the Tamil Nadu–Puducherry coast even as the system fades, and residents are advised to stay alert.
Meanwhile, several districts in Tamil Nadu have reported heavy rainfall. Chennai, for which an Orange Alert had been issued, experienced persistent rains through the day as the weather system showed signs of further weakening.
Authorities have urged residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas to remain cautious while continuing to monitor official weather updates.
The state has deployed 38 disaster response teams, including NDRF and SDRF units, with 10 additional teams brought in from other states.
