BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran on Friday accused the ruling DMK government of betraying farmers by failing to implement key promises made in its 2021 Assembly election manifesto.
Referring to Promise No. 35, he said the DMK had assured the formation of Agricultural Development Committees with farmers’ representatives to address sector-specific issues and fix Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for foodgrains and horticultural crops. Questioning the government, Nainar asked Chief Minister M.K. Stalin whether he had honoured this commitment, despite often describing himself as a ā€œson of the Deltaā€.
The BJP leader alleged that during the DMK’s four-and-a-half-year rule, farmers’ problems had only increased. He claimed the government failed to ensure timely power supply for agriculture and did not supply millets through all fair-price shops as promised.
Nainar further said the absence of proper MSP and market intervention had forced farmers to dump their produce on the streets. Accusing the DMK of cheating the farming community, he said farmers were now ready to reject the government for neglecting their welfare.
